Beginning Fall 2024, I am moving to the University of Georgia as Assistant Professor of Hydrology and Water Resources.
I am a tenured assistant professor in environmental sciences (Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development) at Utrecht University. In 2017, my PhD dissertation was awarded Best Doctoral Thesis Award in Water Security Research by the Global Institute for Water Security, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Saskatchewan Water Security Agency. In 2018, I received the Mowat Award from the School of Environment and Sustainability (University of Saskatchewan). The award is named in honour of the late Canadian author, Farley Mowat, whose novels describing Canada’s north peoples and wildlife received international popular and critical acclaim. I was a Dean’s Scholar and recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2021, I was elected as a full member of the Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering (PAASE). In 2022, I was certified as a Professional Hydrologist by the American Institute of Hydrology. I am also Associate Editor of Vadose Zone Journal and Sustainable Earth Reviews.

I am a full-blooded Filipino geoscientist, with a non-traditional career path. I obtained an undergraduate degree in Cell Biology. I worked in industry and management consulting for 10 years prior to obtaining an MSc in Geosciences [hydrogeology concentration] at the University of Pennsylvania. My PhD was conducted at the Global Institute for Water Security, University of Saskatchewan.
My research focuses on the critical zone and uses tools in hydrology, water resources, and isotope geochemistry to characterize the influence of natural and anthropogenic processes on matter and energy exchange across the hydrosphere, geosphere, and atmosphere.
